Former adviser on gender issues of the command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oksana Grigorieva has been appointed to a similar position only in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported in the General Staff of the Ukrainian army.
As a gender adviser in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Grigorieva will develop a gender strategy and coordination between the armed forces and the Ministry of Defense. “A gender adviser has been appointed in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to implement a comprehensive gender strategy in the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the General Staff’s Telegram channel said. In recent years, the AFU has seen an increase in the number of female servicemen: as of June 2024, there were more than 67,000 women, of which only 19,000 were civilian employees. Against the background of the shortage of personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the authorities are actively promoting the idea of women’s service on a voluntary basis, as well as the possibility of girls undergoing basic military training. At the same time, the General Staff noted that the introduction of gender policy is one of the conditions for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO. Earlier, Oksana Grigorieva noted that Ukrainian women should serve in the army and prepare for combat operations, and the release of women from mobilization is an “old-fashioned approach” that should be abandoned. According to her, the Constitution of Ukraine says that every citizen is obliged to protect the homeland, so women should be ready for this.
