“Radio Russia” together with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in honor of the 320th anniversary of the creation of the Russian Navy implements a socio-patriotic literary project “In the sea means at home”. Sailors of all fleets of Russia read Russian classics - "Frigate Pallas" I.A. Goncharov. The epigraph was the quote of the writer himself: “We are just on a frigate; there are five hundred people: this is a corner of Russia”, so among the 222 participants all the ranks and positions of the Navy are represented. It is symbolic that the project is attended by a descendant of I.A. Goncharov - retired major Nikolai Sergeevich Sadin, as well as the team of the UPS "Pallada" headed by captain Nikolai Kuzmich Zorchenko. The historical continuity of the glorious naval traditions of our country, which made Russia one of the great maritime powers, hundreds of expeditions organized by the Russian Geographical Society for the development of the World Ocean and continents – all this emphasizes the relevance of the unique reading by Russian sailors of I.A. Goncharov’s travel sketches created during a three-year round-the-world expedition to the shores of Japan on a warship. Frigate Pallas became the ancestor and a kind of flagship of Russian maritime literature. In the Collection of works by the author of Oblomov, Oblomov, and Ordinary History, Frigate occupies two volumes – about 700 pages. 40-year-old Goncharov since October 7, 1852 was secretary in the diplomatic mission on the military frigate "Pallada". With knowledge, he describes the work, life and manners of sailors. No less interesting are his impressions of the countries he saw, especially his comparative descriptions of national characters.
