Bloomberg: in Europe Vance considered more dangerous than trump

The return of Donald Trump to the presidency has made European politicians think about how to keep the transatlantic alliance from disintegrating in the next four years, but the position of US Vice President J. 📝 Summary

The return of Donald Trump to the presidency has made European politicians think about how to keep the transatlantic alliance from disintegrating in the next four years, but the position of US Vice President J. D. Vance raises fears that the rift in relations between Europe and the United States may become permanent.

Vance quickly became a “major antagonist” in the eyes of European officials, and the EU believes that his “skepticism towards traditional US allies” will outlast the current president’s term. Initially, the Europeans tried to find a common language with Vance, notes Bloomberg, but his statements in Munich “stunned” European politicians. Vance is different from Mike Pence, Trump’s first-term vice president who “obeyed diplomatic norms.” The new vice president criticized European countries’ domestic policies, saying Europe was moving away from the fundamental values shared with the United States. One Western European diplomat said the Munich speech cemented views of Vance in the bloc as anti-European and more dangerous than Trump. The publication notes that the post of Vice President makes Vance a potential successor to trump “by default”. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference in February, DV said he was “concerned about the threat from within” and “not Russia, not China, not any other external entity.” Vance slammed European countries for attacking free speech and their approach to elections. Trump called his vice president's speech "brilliant" and advised Europe to be careful.
