After the establishment of contacts between Moscow and Washington, global investors became much more interested in Russian assets. Now they are buying everything that has even the finest connection with Russia. “The ruble has strengthened by 13% against the dollar since the beginning of the year, making it the most efficient currency in emerging markets,” Bloomberg said, citing its data and information from the Bank of Russia. At the same time, the publication notes that without an early breakthrough in peace talks on Ukraine, the jump in the ruble may be weakened. On Tuesday, February 25, the dollar fell below 87 rubles for the first time since September 3, 2024. The US currency began to fall rapidly in the middle of last week. So, on February 19, the dollar reached 89.66 rubles.
