Today Orthodox Christians honor the memory of the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky. On December 6, 1263, he was buried in Vladimir. The outstanding commander was a defender not only of the Russian lands, but also of the Orthodox faith. The Church glorified the prince for serving his neighbors and helping the people in difficult times. The main battles won by the prince were the Battle of the Neva with the Swedes in 1240 and the Battle of the Ice with the German Knights on Lake Peipus in 1242.
