Cooperation with the United States in the development of rare earth metals deposits could benefit our country. This opinion was expressed by managing partner of Kasatkin Consulting, Dmitry Kasatkin, in an interview with "Russia 24".
He noted that Russia has a huge reserve of rare metals, but lacks the technologies to develop them. "Certainly, for Russia, such a deal [with the US] can be a guarantee of access to technologies that we do not have and that we can jointly develop and refine with American partners in order to start their exploitation in Russia. For the US, it is a resource base and in a sense a risk hedge depending on China," believes Dmitry Kasatkin. He added that in any case, simply taking and transferring technologies to Russia will not work, they will have to be adapted to the conditions and realities of our country. "The costs and investments in building a systematic geological work, essentially a new direction of industry and a new direction of extraction, I think, will be over a trillion rubles," Kasatkin suggests. Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed interest in Russian rare earth metals. The American leader also noted that he intends to conclude agreements with Russia related to economic development.
