Five future journalists received scholarships named after Anatoly Lysenko

Five students studying in the journalism faculties of leading Russian universities received scholarships named after Anatoly Lysenko. The ceremony of awarding scholarships named after Anatoly Lysenko was held in the walls of MGIMO. This year, the scholarships were students of the journalism faculties of Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, RSUH, GITRA and MGIMO. All of them during the semester will receive scholarships in the amount of 15 thousand rubles from the foundation named after Anatoly Lysenko. “Education and becoming a profession, however pathetic it may sound, of modern youth, is probably what my father did. He did it completely gradually, but it was his mission, says Marjana Lysenko, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Anatoly Lysenko Foundation. After the award, a round table was held. The main topic is the challenges facing modern journalism. One of them is that today the media are forced to compete for the attention of the audience not only among themselves, but also with a large number of Internet bloggers – non-professionals, authors of uncontrolled content. “I always try to tell my students that journalism should be here and here. There is even such a thing as media thinking. This is something that not all people who associate themselves with the media own. But those who are really professional journalists understand perfectly well what should be the approach to the selection of topics, to their presentation, to their formulation. For them, the commandments “do not kill” and “do no harm” are no strangers, says Yaroslav Skvortsov, Dean of the Faculty of International Journalism at MGIMO. Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of MGIMO, touched upon the topic of artificial intelligence and the challenges that the professional community of journalists in Russia and the entire society will face in connection with its development. We understand that the bulk of the data and information is not based on our positions, nor on our humanitarian principles, our traditions, national and spiritual. You have to understand that, too. It will not be easy for journalists to work in the future. We must prepare them for this, says MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov. The topic sparked a lively discussion. The students wondered if they would be unemployed in the future. “Artificial intelligence can already generate news stories. Operate with facts and at the same time generate something like analytical notes. It can even fake an image of a person that can be used on television. And in this regard, I and not only me, all my peers are concerned about the question: will the profession of a journalist stand and then what qualities should a journalist have in order to preserve his profession? – says student Sofia Belomyttseva. The students were reminded that the ability and, to some extent, the duty of a journalist to pass through the pain of others or, conversely, to rejoice with others is one of the main components of the profession and this will never be available to anything artificial.
