German industry has expressed hope that Russian gas supplies will resume. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the agency, the lack of gas supplies from Russia for three years had a significant impact on the German economy. Many large companies were forced to either close their plants or move production abroad. In particular, it became known about the closure of the Audi plant in Brussels, owned by Volkswagen. This led to the loss of jobs for three thousand employees. “It is not surprising that at the current prices for gas and, accordingly, electricity, the industry is at a dead end,” said Igor Yushkov, a leading expert at the National Energy Security Fund and the Financial University under the Russian government. In Germany, many industries were created thanks to cheap and abundant supplies of energy resources from Russia. However, there are those who support the idea of restoring Russian gas supplies to revive industry and ensure Germany’s economic strength. Industry officials hope the EU can find a solution to the problem to avoid a sharp rise in gas prices. According to analysts, the resumption of energy ties with the Russian side should occur on the basis of a political decision that is likely to be made in the future. At the end of January this year, Bundestag deputy Sevim Dagdelen called for the resumption of oil supplies from Russia to Europe.
