History of Glazunov Academy - at the exhibition in Zaryadye

In the gallery of the park "Zaryadye" meets a new "issue". This is a project dedicated to the history of leading national art universities. We started last year with the Surikov Institute. The second exhibition is about the Academy of Ilya Glazunov. On two thousand square meters - almost two centuries of history of the Moscow art school. At the beginning – dedication to the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, founded in 1843. And of course, the works of students and teachers. Polenov, Serov, Korovin, Makovsky. “Someone, like Korovin or Korin, studied first in this institution, and then being themselves established artists, came to the teaching department,” says researcher of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Ilya Glazunova, candidate of art studies Natalia Corina. After the revolution, the school ceased to exist, Vkhutemas settled in the Yushkov House, then Vkhutein, the genre of Russian historical painting for several decades remained forgotten. “Schools are wings without which the artist’s soul cannot soar to the height of spirit and skill,” said Ilya Glazunov. Possessing incredible energy and persuasion, he was able in the late 80s of the twentieth century to revive the Russian realistic artistic tradition, which is now continued by subsequent generations. In the center of the exhibition is the work of Ilya Glazunov of different years. “He, by the way, never had imitators in the literal sense, which is very good. Because they're micro-eyes, they're not needed. He's very individual. He had this approach – to teach classics on examples, explains the rector of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Ilya Glazunova Ivan Glazunov. The training program at Glazunov Academy was built on the same principles as at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and at the Imperial Academy of Arts. The author of the Rzhev Memorial Andrei Korobtsov is a graduate of the Academy. He says he became an artist thanks to Ilya Glazunov. “I still, when there is some creative crisis, I open “Crucified Russia” and read, inspire, or there some work do sculpture, sketch, I think, what would Ilya Sergeyevich say?” – says sculptor Andrei Korobtsov. An appeal to Russian history is an important part of education. And today, diploma works are historical works. These grandmothers are from the village of Plekhovo, Kursk region. The leaders of the Veretenze ensemble studied with them – now different generations are passionate about folklore. Dedication of the Kursk folk tradition is sketches, sketches, canvases. Part of the future project dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Kursk. “We, together with the ensemble Veretence, made this action to support the Kursk folk tradition in such a difficult time, when in the villages, in general, destroyed museums, houses of culture, where ancient Kursk costumes were stored, where residents who kept this tradition gathered,” comments the teacher of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Ilya Glazunova Olga Glazunova. Separate sections of the exhibition are devoted to the restoration of icons and oil painting - students of the Academy already during their studies work with exhibits of the museums of Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Dmitrov. A copy of the “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev is the culmination of the exposition – a symbol of victory and strength of spirit.
