The proposal to look after the animals to the defendant was addressed by his friend – a resident of Balakhta district. As the police found out, the victim and other horse owners of nearby villages agreed with the man on joint grazing of horses. They were supposed to pay him for the service. The verbal arrangement worked well for the 35-year-old suspect, as did the fact that the owners rarely came to visit the pets. From May 2024 to February 2025, the suspect sold seven horses to a buyer from Khakassia, three to residents of the district. “He explained the disappearance of ten more animals by various emergencies: horses died from tick bites and fell into deep washes, someone was hit by cars or horses simply died from the fact that they ate something,” the press service of the regional police said. The horse robbery disposed of the money at his discretion. The damage from the actions of the shepherd amounted to about two million rubles. A criminal case of theft has been opened against a previously unconvicted man. He faces up to ten years in prison.
