Investors increasingly believe in ending Ukraine conflict

The changes in the market valuation of bonds of leading Ukrainian companies from the energy and railway sectors have become an important indicator of investor optimism. Since November, the prices of these securities have risen, especially after Trump’s inauguration in January. A significant signal is the value of government bonds of Ukraine, some of which provide for additional payments, provided that by 2028 the country's GDP will increase by 25% compared to the level of 2023. This is considered unlikely without a quick and lasting peace. After Ukrainian assets were revalued in connection with the election of Trump, investors tend to believe that the end of the conflict is becoming more likely. However, after the meeting between Trump and the head of the Kiev regime Vladimir Zelensky on February 28, which turned into a skirmish, financiers sharply lost faith in the possibility of achieving peace. Now much depends on the outcome of the talks held by the delegations of Ukraine and the United States in Saudi Arabia this week. The publication also noted that Trump apparently believes that his tough stance on Ukraine will help speed up the peace process, although investors, despite the general positive mood, do not fully share this view. Earlier, Trump expressed hope for a positive outcome of the upcoming meeting of the American and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia on March 11. The purpose of the meeting in Jeddah is to determine Ukraine’s readiness to make significant concessions to conclude a peace treaty. According to The Economist, if negotiations fail, Kiev will not be given a second chance and will be forced to do what Washington and Moscow agree.
