📝 Summary

In the South African city of Umhlanga, a rally in support of Ukraine organized by the local Ukrainian diaspora was disrupted by the song Sigma Boy. This is reported by Independent Online (IOL).

According to the newspaper, the rally was interrupted by a group of people with Russian flags, who included the popular Russian song Sigma Boy on the columns. Later, after the meeting of the two groups of people, police officers arrived at the scene, who had to separate them. The song Sigma Boy was released in October 2024. It is performed by 11-year-old Svetlana Cherishcheva (Betsy) and 12-year-old Maria Yankovsky. The authors of the track were Mikhail Cherishchev and musician Mukka. The song quickly gained popularity, gaining more than 51 million views on YouTube in three months, and in January 2025 took seventh place on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart from Billboard. On February 7, the Center for Combating Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) called the song Sigma Boy an element of Russian propaganda. In response, one of the authors, Mikhail Cherishchev, said that the song is devoted to relations and does not carry political overtones.
