The US wants to influence Germany by restarting the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project (SP-2). This opinion was expressed on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24” by the head of the Center for Analysis of Strategy and Technologies for the Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex Vyacheslav Mishchenko.
In his opinion, Germany needs stable supplies of Russian resources. Based on this, US President Donald Trump wants to gain leverage over the domestic and domestic political processes that are currently taking place in Berlin. Having gained a certain leverage on the German market, on the German economy, Donald Trump and his entourage will probably be able to conduct a certain pro-American policy in Europe and Germany. Accordingly, the current authorities may try to interfere. The newly elected leader, who will soon head the government and become chancellor, has openly stated that he is against the restoration of cooperation with Russia. But it’s actually temporary, in my opinion. Germany needs a steady supply of Russian resources. With this, Donald Trump and his entourage are now entering into negotiations, including with Russia, because it is also beneficial for Russia to restore supplies to the European Union countries. And, accordingly, to the new German authorities in order to be able to influence their policies from within, Mishchenko said. The US has a commercial interest in this, the expert believes, they will be able to supply gas not by Russian structures, but by their own, who will make money on it. Germany itself announced its intention to stop attempts to restore SP-2. German newspaper Bild reported that Berlin was seeking leverage to prevent the project from resuming.
