Pushkinsky XXI - 10 March 2025, 20:33

In 2017, the museum announced the creation of a new direction of activity - the program "Pushkin XXI", which is designed to give viewers an idea of the latest art and its brightest representatives. The mission of Pushkin XXI is to show the great achievements of world artistic culture, in combination of classical and modern art, in the inclusion of modern domestic masters in the international context. The series of programs is devoted to this direction and the theme of the future museum. The presenter is an art historian, curator of the direction "Pushkin-XXI", head of the department of film and media art of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. It will talk with the guests of the program not only about the plans and projects of the Pushkin Museum, but also about the prospects for the development of the entire Russian museum sphere, one of the flagships of which today is the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. How is the traditional museum transformed to fit the contemporary viewer’s perception? How can we create a space for dialogue between all forms of presentation of classical and contemporary art, from painting and sculpture to virtual reality and video art? Students of the program should hardly expect ready-made unambiguous answers to these questions. Each issue should become for both authors and the audience an experience of joint search for solutions, research, experiments, trial and error. And, perhaps most importantly, to become an occasion to raise more and more questions about the fate of the classical museum in the modern era. Perhaps intractable, but always intriguing.
