The piano of the daughter of the Decembrist Sergei Trubetsky was restored in Irkutsk

The piano, which belonged to the younger daughter of the Decembrist Sergei Trubetsky, was restored in Irkutsk. The instrument was presented to the house-museum of the Trubetskoys a few years ago – now it has found its voice again. The music of the past was heard by Natalia Bespalova. The piano of the company "Eberg", made in February 1871, was presented to the Irkutsk Museum by a resident of Orel - writer and local historian Elena Ashimina. She said that until 1920, the musical instrument stood in the house of the grandson of the Decembrist Sergei Trubetsky. After leaving Irkutsk, his daughter Zinaida settled near Orel and lived there with her family for more than 50 years. Then the piano changed several owners. As a result, it was bought by Elena Ashimina’s grandmother. “Zinaida Sergeevna thus returned to Irkutsk. The memory of our city, our region, about their parents, sisters, brothers, about those Decembrists who surrounded the Trubetsk family here in Irkutsk, said Elena Dobrynina, director of the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Decembrists. The piano was delivered to Irkutsk three years ago, but it could not sound then. Irkutsk piano master Vladimir Filatov returned his voice to the ancient instrument. Worked for two and a half years. There were many difficulties and extraordinary decisions, because he had not yet met such pianos. “This piano is still straight-stringed, even before the cast-iron frame inside – here the struts stand instead of cast iron. And therefore, we had to deal primarily with acoustics, said piano master Vladimir Filatov. Music was always in the house of the Decembrists. And all the children of Sergei Trubetsky had a musical education. But now it is virtually impossible to find the tools of those years. Therefore, this piano not only transports us at that time, but is also a unique and invaluable exhibit for the Irkutsk Museum. The first to listen to the voice of the historic piano came honorary guests of the house-museum Trubetskoy. The atmosphere here is different – musical. The museum plans to revive chamber concerts.
