📝 Summary

Is it worth fearing global warming and can the Arctic remain without ice – we are working with the director of the department of aquatic biological resources and their habitat of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography Kirill Kivva.

Global warming is a topic that worries the world from generation to generation. Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, and the climate is becoming more unpredictable. But what if we’re wrong about these changes? Maybe our planet is just going through another cycle where life has always found a way to adapt. In the Arctic, Canadian scientists have discovered fossils of palm trees that grew there 48 million years ago. Kirill Kivva suggested that if palm trees grew on Svalbard, the temperature there was under 30 ° C. Why has the Earth’s climate changed so dramatically? The answer, according to the expert, lies not only in the atmosphere, but also in the ocean, soil and life. An outbreak of biodiversity in the past has affected the climate, and perhaps the changes we see today are only part of that. Human activities, including carbon dioxide emissions, are accelerating climate change. Scientists predict that in the future, the climate may be replaced by a cooling, but this may not happen if current human activity continues. Melting permafrost in Russia’s northern regions is causing infrastructure problems, putting security at risk. However, according to Kivva, it is possible to predict changes and prepare for them. “We are trying to understand how things will change and give scenario predictions for adaptation,” he said.
