Yields of berries and fruits doubled in Kuban

Krasnodar region for many years is in the top regions of Russia for the production of fruits and berries. Over the past 10 years, yields in the Kuban have doubled. Now 248 centners of fruits are harvested from each hectare of gardens, which is 40% more than the national average. Last year, 550 thousand tons of fruits and berries were harvested in the region - this is the largest harvest in the history of the region. Of these, 525,000 tons are apples. If the weather does not fail, this year the harvest may become even more, said the Governor of Kuban Veniamin Kondratiev. New technologies helped to increase the harvest: Previously, apples were harvested from 60 thousand hectares, now the gardens have become more modern, their area has been reduced by half, and the harvest has grown by 60% - to 600 centners per hectare. Gardeners use drip irrigation - water comes directly to the roots, trellis - trees grow up like grapes, protection from pests, seedlings from local nurseries - there are 28 of them in the region. Government support also plays an important role. Last year, 1.1 billion rubles were allocated for gardens, this year subsidies will amount to 1.3 billion rubles. This money helps to develop the industry in the region. The main fruit areas of the Kuban are Slavyansky, Leningrad, Abinsky, Dinskoy, Yeisky and Timashevsky, the press service of the Krasnodar Territory Administration reports.
