Archpriest Kharitonov proposed instead of March 8 to celebrate the Day of Myrrhbearing Wives. According to him, the ROC does not support women, but this holiday. “The very celebration of this emancipation of women, the so-called freedom. March 8 is not connected with our traditions, our culture, thousand-year history. Kharitonov noted that ministers of the church, like all Orthodox Christians, honor their mothers, wives and sisters. He added that it would be good if people decided to celebrate the church holiday instead of March 8, but they should not be forced to do so. The priest added that it would be good to change the holiday, but no one should be forced to do so. Kharitonov also recalled that Christ elevated the woman, because it was Christianity that raised her to a high level. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian women on International Women’s Day.
