Russians expect a long weekend from 8 to 11 may and from 12 to 15 June due to the transfer of holidays from 23 February and 8 March, said the head of the Duma Committee on labor Yaroslav Nilov.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, he recalled that in 2025, February 23 fell on Sunday, and March 8 on Saturday, while the balance of working and non-working days enshrined in the Labor Code was not violated. “Because of February 23, there will be an additional day off on May 8, so we will rest on May 8, 9, 10 and 11,” he said. As for March 8, this day off is postponed to June 13. Thus, citizens will receive four days off to celebrate Russia Day, which is celebrated on June 12. Nilov stressed that the decision to postpone the weekend is the right of the government, which is carried out annually.
