A Nova-C lander called Athena, developed by Intuitive Machines, launched to the moon. On board is a Nokia 4G transmitter, which will be the world’s first cellular communication station on the surface of a natural satellite.
From the broadcast, which was conducted on the website of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), it follows that the launch took place at 3:16 GMT on February 27 from Cape Canaveral in Florida using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. The lander on the Mons Mouton plateau near the south pole of the moon is scheduled for March 6. The duration of the lunar mission will be ten Earth days. One of the tasks of the mission will be the continuation of exploration of the resources of the natural satellite of the Earth. To do this, the lander loaded the Trident drill, which can penetrate the lunar surface to a depth of one meter, as well as the MSolo mass spectrometer for analyzing organic and inorganic compounds from soil samples. Earlier, the owner of SpaceX, American entrepreneur Elon Musk, expressed interest in the idea of placing a Russian-made nuclear installation on the moon. In turn, the President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk said that in the future, this research center together with Rosatom can ensure the operation of power plants on the moon.
