The club said that this decision was made jointly with the sponsor, En+. It is reported that now they intend to develop children's sports. However, according to the president of the Irkutsk Region Ice Hockey Federation, Vladimir Matienko, if the next Russian championship is held without a team from Irkutsk, the city risks being left without a favorite sport. Let me remind you that Baikal-Energia is a multiple winner of the Russian championships and the owner of the national cup. This season, the club reached the 1/4 finals, where in the series to two victories lost to the capital “Dynamo”. “Of course, children's sport is very important. But the boys go to hockey with the ball to be like their idols, watch their game, grow in skill and in the future get into the Super League team. If there is no team, for whom then to raise champions - for Kuzbass, SKA-Neftyanik, Yenisei? The club's participation in the Super League will be temporarily suspended. You know what that's going to do? Tomorrow, all players will sign contracts with other Super League clubs. That is, the team will no longer be, says the president of the Irkutsk Region Ice Hockey Federation Vladimir Matienko.
