Housewife Susanne Dutchman lives in a wealthy suburb with her husband Mark, a financial tycoon. Their lives seem perfect until Mark is arrested for fraud and Suzanne finds herself embroiled in a lawsuit. Suzanne is sentenced to 100 hours of community service, where she meets Bill Oakland, a writer who lost his sight and became a literature teacher. Bill has a bad temper, so at first Suzanne avoids contact with him. But over time, the woman is imbued with sympathy for him – and realizes that perhaps many years ago she married the wrong person.
