BMW refused to assemble in Kaliningrad cars

Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) AG said in a separate statement. Earlier it was reported that Kaliningrad Avtotor released a limited batch of crossovers BMW X5, X6 and X7 from old car sets stored in warehouses. The BMW Group said that the car plant in Kaliningrad, without the consent and participation of the German concern, collected and commissioned several dozen cars. These cars can not be equated with those BMW, which are assembled for the Russian market officially. Allegedly counterfeit cars meet strict quality and safety standards, and pose potential risks to the lives and health of drivers, passengers and other street users, the German automaker said in a letter. Repair and maintenance of cars assembled in Russia without German participation falls entirely on the shoulders of their owners, although dealers can provide a guarantee. At the same time, the Bavarian automaker recalled that it owns the trademark and intellectual property rights. The company continues to protect its products in the Russian Federation. On the "Avtotor" these rumors did not comment, but the information about the assembled cars against the background of the anti-sanctions policy was not confirmed. Until 2022, Kaliningrad Avtotor assembled premium cars BMW and Mercedes-Benz, as well as products of South Korean brands KIA and Hyundai. The contract for the assembly of BMW in Kaliningrad was terminated amid the introduction of Western sanctions against Russia in March 2022. Currently, the assembly line of the Kaliningrad plant descends cars of Chinese brands - Kaiyi, BAIC, Dongfeng Sokon, as well as a number of others. On parallel imports to Russia in 2024 alone, more than 181 thousand new cars of world brands were imported. The leader in this scheme of import was Toyota Camry, BMW X5 and BMW X7 entered the top ten. But in the top 10 reliable car models over 5 years from the British automotive portal WhatCar, no Bavarian car really did not get.
