Chinese sailor found guilty of spilling 35.8 tons of fuel oil in Novorossiysk

As a result of his actions, 35.8 tons of fuel oil fell into the water area of the Tsemes Bay. The port infrastructure and the environment were damaged in the amount of more than 177 million rubles. The incident occurred in February 2024 after the bunkering of the vessel. Fuel leaked from a damaged fuel tank into a sewage sink. The motorist tried to fix the leak on his own, violating job descriptions and international standards. The unskilled actions of Qin Kan led to widespread pollution. The court found the foreign seafarer guilty of pollution of the marine environment. Environmental damage was estimated at 137.9 million rubles. Another 27.4 million rubles were spent by the Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port to eliminate the consequences of the spill, and 11.8 million rubles by Morspassluzhby. The publication reports that Qin Kang fully admitted guilt and repented of his actions. The court fined the foreigner 300,000 rubles.
