In particular, during a press conference, the French president voiced the idea of compensating Ukraine "at Russia's expense," referring to using its frozen assets for this purpose. Following this, voices of journalists were heard in the room, and Trump decided to clarify the words of his French colleague. The US president explained that Ukraine is receiving money as a loan from Europe, which will be reimbursed later. "No, actually, if we speak honestly, we have paid 60% of the total amount. It was like in the US: loans, guarantees, grants. We provided real money," Macron said, interrupting Trump and not letting him finish. The French leader added that during peaceful negotiations, Russia should be offered to return its frozen assets. After that, the US president said, "If you believe in that, fine." During the meeting with Trump, Macron also stated that confiscating frozen Russian assets is impossible as it contradicts international law. The French president added that only dividends from these assets can be confiscated, not the assets themselves. At the same time, the French leader noted that the fate of Russia's frozen assets could be a subject of negotiations after the end of hostilities.
