📝 Summary

Today in Russia is the culmination of Olive Week. By tradition, pancakes are baked on Maslenitsa and folk festivities are arranged. On Sunday, Orthodox Christians ask each other for forgiveness, entering Lent with a pure soul. Russian Buddhists celebrate the New Year on the lunar calendar. In the Buddhist tradition, it symbolizes renewal, purification and the beginning of a new life cycle.

A special ritual of spiritual purification on the eve of the White month - Sagaalgan - is held in all Buddhist temples of the country. In the Irkutsk region, hundreds of local residents came to Ust-Orda datsan. The rite "Dugjuuba" symbolizes getting rid of negative karma, diseases and failures of the outgoing year. To do this, believers and clergymen burn in a large fire pieces of dough, cloth and paper, in which sins and negativity are accumulated. The shamans of Tuva also carry out their ritual of cleansing and getting rid of negative energy with the smoke of herbs. Under the rhythms of diamonds and vargans, shamans enter into communication with spirits. Because of this, both the earthly and the spiritual world are open to them. “It’s not just us here, and there are a lot of spirits of the area, the land is also present here,” explains Alexei Kunga, chairman of the shaman organization Tos Deer. And here is a beautiful and ancient ceremony for men. The archer pulls the string of a traditional bow and addresses the four cardinal points. The arrow carries with it all the bad to meet the New Year with a clean slate – a renewed person. Each Buddhist region has its own sacred places. In the Trans-Baikal Territory, Buddhists climb the stupa "Yunden Shodon" to pay respects and receive blessings. The festival "Sagaalgan begins with Agi" continued on the streets and square of the village of Aginskoye. In the special area, guests participated in master classes, games and tasted local products. They lit a ritual fire, saying goodbye to the Year of the Dragon and celebrating the Year of the Snake. In Kalmykia, local residents celebrate the arrival of spring. This holiday in the Volga steppes is called Tsagan Sar. According to tradition, every family on this day bake a national flour dish - borzogs. “We do this like this. Well, every hostess does it differently. I get it like this, says resident Elista Fatima Markhadaeva. The white month in Kalmykia lasts 30 days, and the color itself represents goodness, purity and well-being. The etiology of this holiday is connected with the semantics of the word "Tsagan", that is, white. What carries a good, positive connotation carries something bright, white, says Victoria Kukanova, director of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Kalmyk steppe is also being updated, where the gophers have already come out of hibernation, thereby announcing the arrival of spring. In the early morning of Sagaalgan, when it is still dark, Buddhists in Russia rush to the temples to hear Tibetan texts, which sound once a year. The White Month is traditionally celebrated with prayer. At the prayer service "Tsedor Lhamo" in the main Buddhist temple of the country in the Ivolginsky datsan came hundreds of believers from different regions of the country. This year, for the first time, the Holy Hural is being held in the new Tsogchen Dugan building. It is believed that the goddess Baldan Lhamo at this time flies around the Earth and watches those who meet this holiday. Those who sleep in the early hours, she takes for the dead, and they lose luck. Thanks to the sacred texts, believers in datsans receive peace of mind, because sincere prayers full of faith and compassion have great power. This is prayed for in the area of a special military operation in the only front-line datsan-blindage in Russia, which is built deep underground. Sacred Buddhist mantras here even sound special. On the native land of the SVO participants, where their relatives and friends are waiting for them with victory, the meeting of the White Month is saturated with home traditions that reflect respect, spiritual values and national customs. In the Tsybenov family, traditions are respected, so four generations are at the festive table at once. Faced to the north must sit relatives of older age - it is believed that behind them are deities. Buryat Sagaalgan is when we honor our ancestors, when we honor our elders. This is passed from generation to generation, shares mother Elena Tsybenova. The meal itself begins with white food, that is, with dairy products, which symbolize the beginning of a new cycle. Meat dishes are abundant. And during the feast exchange of good wishes and gifts. The regional authorities annually maintain the tradition of celebrating the New Year according to the lunar calendar, "In the largest of our FGC complex, a holiday is held, many people are invited. It’s like New Year’s Eve when everyone walks. It's our day off. A day off in Buryatia and in the Trans-Baikal Territory, and in the Irkutsk region, in the Ust-Ordy district, says the head of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov. Charge festive mood and feel the unity of the people could be in the center of Ulan-Ude. The Dagalflashmob event gathered hundreds of participants. In national costumes, residents of the republic in a solemn column walked along the central street of the city. “The atmosphere is here at all! Well, it's a national holiday so beautiful. It seems to me that this is a special landmark for us, for the Buryat people, says Sayan Tsympilov, a member of the flash mob. The action ended with the traditional mass performance of the national dance yohor. The white month for Buddhists is not just a holiday, it is a time when people forgive old grievances, thank for all the good things and start a new life cycle.
