The exposition and history of the city on the opening day was acquainted with the acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein. “I am very glad that there are so many caring people on the Kursk land who love history, who treat their past as part of themselves, and I hope that this exhibition will be interesting to a very large number of people, not only local historians,” said Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of the Kursk region. In watercolors forever frozen gymnasiums and parish schools, factories, apartment houses with carved ornament, the famous Moscow gate of Kursk. The history of Kursk was preserved in colors by Israel Likorenko. Architecture was written from nature and from archival documents or old postcards. Talked to the old people of the city. That is, from the Moscow to the Kherson Gate, says historian, local historian Viktor Sklyaruk. There are more than 70 works with views of the Merchant Kursk. And those works that were not included in the exposition, more than 500 of them, were published in a special book where you can get acquainted with the streets of the old pre-revolutionary Kursk. After the death of Israel, Likorenko’s relatives fulfilled his will and donated all the drawings to the museum.
