📝 Summary

The candidate for the post of head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Morinari Watanabe said that he wants the return of Russians to international tournaments. His words lead RIA Novosti.

Watanabe, who visited Moscow, stressed that while the conflict in Ukraine continues, there is no possibility for Russians to compete in tournaments under their own flag. “Athletes are most looking forward to participating in international competitions,” Watanabe said. I would like to see their dream come true. The IOC suspended the ROC in October 2023 due to the fact that it included the Olympic councils of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. IOC President Thomas Bach will step down on June 23. The new head of the organization will be elected on March 20 in Costa Navarino, Greece.
