Likbez. Han Ae Kang: New Tansekhwa. Meditation in Color - 11 March 2025, 02:04

Tansekhwa ("monochrome painting") is a movement of abstract art that originated in the 1970s in South Korea, combining Korean aesthetics and Far Eastern philosophy with Western modernist practices. Tansekhwa artists used the ideas of ancient Eastern philosophical schools, in particular Buddhism and Taoism, and the process of creating works was rather a spiritual practice. The monochrome nature of tansekhwa was a reaction to the dictatorial policies of President Park Chung-hee.
