U.S. tariffs imposed on Canada, China and Mexico will lead to the growth of the global economy and the expansion of the trade war between states. This opinion was expressed on the TV channel "Russia 24" Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory of Plekhanov REU Ekaterina Novikov.
Earlier it became known that, according to the decision of US President Donald Trump, goods from China will be subject to a duty of 20%. Canadian and Mexican imports are subject to a 25% duty, with the exception of Canadian energy, which is 10%. In this situation, the main struggle is between China and the United States, while Canada, Mexico and Europe are components of this confrontation, the expert believes. “As for economic indicators, for example, the forecast of GDP, both the United States and China, this indicator will continue to grow in 2025, including for reasons of expansion of each economy,” Novikova explains. In the near future, any duties will affect economic indicators, including inflation. “In the medium and long term, markets will already adjust to new conditions. <...> That is, competition will take place between established trade associations. And here we can see quite significant economic growth in the world economy. But at this stage, of course, there will be inflated inflation in the United States, China, and Europe, because we, in principle, live in a period of such turbulence within the entire world economy. Also, HSE analyst Egor Toropov expressed his opinion on the consequences of the introduction of duties by the United States against the three states. According to him, the UK will refuse to retaliate against the United States.
