Alexander Miroshnichenko died on March 8 at the age of 71. The cause of his death was not disclosed. "On March 8, 2025, the president of the International Association of Veterans of the Anti-Terror Unit Alpha, retired Colonel-General Alexander Miroshnichenko, suddenly passed away," the publication says. He was born in Moscow on July 3, 1953. At the age of 24, he graduated from the special school of the KGB of the USSR in Leningrad, after which he was sent to work in the Security Service of Diplomatic Missions of the 7th Directorate of the KGB of the USSR. Four years later, he was assigned to Group A, the KGB’s famous special unit. Miroshnichenko participated in Operation Baikal-79 in December 1979 in Kabul, ensured the personal safety of the new head of Afghanistan, Babrak Karmal, freed hostages in Budennovsk, on Vasilievsky Descent in Moscow, in the village of Pervomaisky and on Dubrovka. In 2023, he was elected president of the International Association of Veterans of the Alpha Group.
