📝 Summary

The development of the Arctic territories will bring even more rare earth metals. This was stated in an exclusive interview with the TV channel "Russia 24" in the program "Question of Science" by the Director of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science named after A. Voikov, RAS Corresponding Member Vladimir Komlev.

Among the largest deposits of rare earth elements in Russia, the scientist named Lovozerskoye in the Murmansk region, Tomtorskoye in Yakutia and Chuktukonskoye in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. He believes that in the Arctic territories it will be possible to find large reserves of REM. “The development of the Arctic will bring even more rare earths in the future. Because they are mainly concentrated in the northern latitudes of our country, in the Arctic regions, Komlev explained. The scientist also said that the main industries in which rare earths are used are petrochemicals, magnetic industry, automotive, wind energy, metallurgical and glass industry. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Russia has 29 million tons of rare earth elements, making it the second in the world. In the first place - China, after Russia are Brazil, India, the United States, Vietnam.
