📝 Summary

Russia took the third place in terms of arms exports, the top three are also the United States and France. This is stated in the report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

The SIPRI report, Trends in International Arms Supplies, shows that the United States accounted for 43 percent of global exports. For four years, the United States increased supplies by 21%. In 2024, 107 countries received key U.S. weapons, the largest supplies to Europe (35% of U.S. exports) and the Middle East (33%). Ukraine ranked first in arms imports, followed by the UK, the Netherlands and Norway. At the same time, most of the weapons were sent to Ukraine in the form of assistance, more than 70% of which fell on used weapons, for quick delivery taken from the warehouse. France, in turn, supplied arms to 65 countries, most of them to Asia and Oceania (35%), followed by the Middle East (28%) and Europe (15%). Russia’s share of global exports was 7.8%. According to analysts, Russian exports decreased by 64% over the past five years. As explained in SIPRI, such a reduction may be due to sanctions and the priority of arming its own army. According to data for 2024, Russia supplied arms to 33 countries, most of the supplies were received by Asia and Oceania (74% of Russian exports), then Africa (12%), European countries (7.4%), including Belarus, Serbia and Armenia. Earlier, SIPRI experts reported an increase in revenues of the largest arms manufacturers in the world by more than 4%, revenue reached 632 billion dollars.
