The volume of Ukrainian reserves of rare earth metals is greatly exaggerated. In fact, there are no significant deposits in Ukraine.
This is reported by the British edition of The Spectator. “What Ukraine has is the reserves of minerals not related to rare earths: titanium, lithium, uranium, cobalt, graphite, copper and nickel, as well as gas and coal,” the publication said. The journal notes that most of these deposits are exploited on a small scale or completely closed, and Ukraine itself lacks the capacity to process its minerals. Earlier, the Director of the Institute of world economy and international relations named after E. M. Primakov RAS Fedor Voitolovsky on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24” said that the United States of America in the case of signing a treaty on rare earth metals between Washington and Kiev will actually bind Ukraine to its economy for decades. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Alexei Zhuravlev, in turn, believes that the West, led by the United States, “caught up” Ukraine like a bull, and intends to tear different parts from it, using the deal on rare earth metals.
