On the Sun recorded a powerful flash of class M

The last outbreak of similar power (M1.7) was observed on March 5. "On March 11, at 15:04 GMT, an outbreak of M1.1 (N05W46) lasting 3 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range," the institute said. According to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS, the flash was not accompanied by an ejection of solar plasma. In addition, its location near the edge of the solar disk excludes any impact on the Earth. Solar flares are classified by X-ray power into five classes: A, B, C, M and X. The minimum class A0.0 corresponds to the radiation power of 10 nW per square meter in Earth orbit. Each next class means a tenfold increase in power. Usually flares are accompanied by plasma ejections, which, reaching the Earth, can cause magnetic storms. However, in this case, such consequences are unlikely.
