The Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov laid flowers on the grave of Emperor Alexander III in Peter and Paul Cathedral, marking the 180th anniversary of the birth of the monarch, the press service of the administration of the governor of the city reported. Beglov stressed the importance of the Alexander III era for Russia, characterized by the development of industry, railway transport, strengthening of military power and the authority of the state. Alexander III was an example of love for the Fatherland and the people. In 1891, he began construction of the world’s longest Trans-Siberian Railway, he added. The report also mentioned the ongoing restoration of the Gatchina Palace – the residence of the imperial family – with the support of the budget of St. Petersburg.
