New types of drones will be equipped with lightweight coils with a longer cable, which will increase the range of flight. “The mass of the coil a priori reduces the possibility of placing a large payload. At the same time, the longer the fiber optic, the heavier it becomes and, accordingly, the weight of the drone, too. The coil can take up to half the mass of the warhead, – said in an interview with the publication General Director of KB “AviaNovations” Sergey Tovkach. The company also tests reusable coils, they can be used again. In addition, Technodron is working on a fiber-optic UAV interceptor, it will help protect against enemy drones. Earlier, military expert Maxim Kazanin in an interview with Russia 24 stressed that drones on fiber optic almost never miss and have high efficiency. The device of drones on fiber optic does not differ from other varieties, only the control channel changes. UAVs transmitting a signal over a radio channel are vulnerable to electronic warfare (EW), fiber-optic drones are deprived of this drawback, the Director of the International Training Center for Unmanned Aviation Maxim Kondratiev told Russia 24 TV channel.
