"Theatre Project 27" presented the play "Whale sails to the North"

An independent theater from St. Petersburg presented in Moscow a philosophical fairy tale “The whale swims to the north”, in which the main character is looking for his path and purpose in life. The story of Anastasia Strokina inspired the director Alina Kushim to stage a play and tell the story of mamora – a strange creature that looks like a squirrel, fox, raccoon, who goes in search of his island. “I wish everyone who comes in and sees the play, every child, every teenager, every adult, if they haven’t found that place yet. Find, feel where? That's the feeling when it pops inside you. And you know, this is it, this is my place. This is my island, this is my destination, says director Alina Kushim. After reading the book, Arseny Weiss realized that the mamora lives in the soul of every child who passes the path of growing up. “He’s just trying to figure out who he is, why he is, when he is, what he is, he’s trying to reach his goal so he doesn’t turn to stone,” said actor Arseny Weiss. The hero Arseny goes on a trip with a blue whale. He is played by Vladislav Dunaev. Along the way, the mamora and the whale will become friends. Change the world and change themselves. Actor Vladislav Dunaev: I like that this is a philosophical fairy tale. I like that this story is very clever, that it is not a simple story, intricate. Vladislav Dunaev has two roles. He's a geographer. He writes a blog, talks about travel, communicates with virtual Alice. Minimalism gave ideas to the stage designer of the play Ana Itkina. She invented shadow theater. Through the codoscope, light is projected onto the screen. Figures of heroes come to life with the light hand of Alexandra Dmitrieva. The performance was shown on the Art Platform by the independent St. Petersburg Theatre Project 27. “Theatre in this sense becomes such a catalyst for people to read, learn and understand that we also have very cool texts in Russia,” said Natalia Sergeevskaya, director of Theatre Project 27.
