To the 135th anniversary of Konstantin Melnikov in Moscow opened two exhibitions

The 135th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Melnikov Museum of Architecture celebrates two exhibitions. The first is dedicated to the famous house in Krivoarbatsky Lane, a monument of the Soviet avant-garde of world importance. And the second – to the wife of the architect: after all, Melnikov built not a monument, but a house for a happy family. The details are from Julia Strukova. The history of the Melnikov House is very detailed. The architect carefully recorded all the stages of construction from laying the first brick in photos and diaries. He didn't make much blueprints before. And today photos of the 30s are the main documents for restorers. Which, even in the course of today's work, continue to make discoveries. "The laying is leaky. And what's interesting is, I climbed into the woods, and I made a masonry drawing for this masonry. When measuring these bricks, as he laid them with turns, this situation came out with displacements. To date, I have conditionally drawn up to this point. I mean, the top isn't drawn yet. But I already have 17 types of rows, says Konstantin Melnikova’s great-great-granddaughter Natalia Melnikova. Melnikov was catastrophically short of money for construction. Any available materials were used. Here's one of the original shields that sewn up some of the hexagonal windows. The backfill between such shields was what archaeologists call the cultural layer. “Sand, sawdust, soil raised literally on the site. And as always in Moscow, there can be no ground, there are always traces of human life. Therefore, a pleasant trifle of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, said Natalia Shashkova, director of the Shchusev Museum of Architecture. Immediately after construction, the avant-garde structure is in the center of attention of architects, artists, photographers. Among the guests were Alexander Rodchenko, British photographer and traveler Robert Byron. These are the prints of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Nearby is a series of artistic and documentary photographs of Igor Palmin, for whom the most valuable was to show the Moscow life of this house. Alexander Naanu has been exploring color and light for the past ten years. “The light works very interestingly there. The bedroom has golden plaster, golden walls. The way they begin, especially in the vicinity of sunset, to dance hexagonal bunnies. And reflections off the floor, off the bed. And my eyes are on fire, admits the photographer Alexander Naanu. The source of inspiration of the architect is Anna Yablokova. Wife, model for drawings, sketches and paintings. Her wedding dress is a unique exhibit of the exhibition. It was found in the house by accident. It took three years to restore. “Silk is a very thin gas fabric. And it's a few layers. So basically, she had three sleeves. And there was an image - that she was flying. She floats like a nymph, says Anna Kistanova, director of the State Museum of Konstantin and Viktor Melnikov. 62 years married. The Melnikovs survived the revolution, the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, the incredible rise of the career of an architect and his complete removal from professional life
