Trump, even before his inauguration as president of the United States, said that Greenland should be included in the United States. He argued that the need to ensure the security of the country against the background of possible threats from China and Russia, according to Trump. Earlier, the American leader offered to buy Greenland from Denmark and threatened to impose high trade duties on Copenhagen if it does not give up its rights to the island. Both ideas were rejected by the Danish and Greenlandic authorities. In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, noting the need for compromise during any negotiations, mentioned the relationship between Greenland and Denmark.
