President of the United States Donald Trump increased import duties on goods from China from 10% to 20%. The American leader accused Beijing of the ineffectiveness of fighting drug trafficking in the United States, follows from the text of the published decree of the head of state.
According to Trump, Beijing has not taken sufficient steps to alleviate the crisis related to drug trafficking. “Therefore, section 2(a) of Executive Order 14195 is hereby amended by deleting the words ‘10 percent’ and inserting the words ‘20 percent’ in their place,” the executive order said. The document clarifies that Washington accuses Beijing of “failure” to take measures to curb the flow of synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, from China to the United States, which poses an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to national security, foreign policy and the US economy. Earlier, the US President announced the introduction of new import duties on goods from China in the amount of $ 600 billion. This was the largest volume of trade restrictions imposed by the United States. China’s Ministry of Commerce described Washington’s actions as “typical manifestations of unilateralism and protectionism.” The ministry called on the United States to return to the multilateral trading system and abandon the “zero-sum” mentality.
