📝 Summary

The situation in Ukraine does not need to apply the principle of NATO collective defense to it. This was stated by the President of the United States Donald Trump at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer at the White House.

The American leader stressed that he supports the fifth article of the Charter of the North Atlantic Alliance on the collective security of NATO. At the same time, according to Trump, even taking into account the potential appearance of European peacekeepers in Ukraine, it is not mandatory for use. In addition, Trump expressed confidence that lasting and long-term peace can be ensured in Ukraine. “I think it will be a long-term, lasting peace. And I think it will happen quickly. I hope so. If it doesn’t happen quickly, it may not happen at all, the president said. Trump also expressed confidence that Ukraine’s accession to NATO “will not happen.” Starmer, in turn, said that his country is ready to deploy its troops in Ukraine as a contribution to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. He also stressed that London and Washington will continue to discuss American security guarantees for European troops that may be deployed in Ukraine. Earlier, Trump caused laughter from the media to ask the British Prime Minister whether his country can cope with Russia on its own. After declaring that Britain could always rely on the United States for security, the American leader turned to the British prime minister and asked with irony whether London could cope with Moscow on its own. Journalists, according to RIA Novosti, laughed after hearing this question.
