Based on the novel by Alberto Moravia "Chochara". Italy, 1943. Cesira’s young widow closes a shop in Rome and flees the capital with her thirteen-year-old daughter Rosetta to her home village, fleeing the constant bombing of Anglo-American aviation. There she formed a friendly relationship with the son of a local farmer – intelligent Michele. The young man is fascinated by the beautiful Cesira, but she cares only about the fate of her daughter. Finally, the fighting comes to a remote village. There are more refugees and fewer products. Cesira and her daughter leave the village to return to Rome.
