According to him, competent management of aquatic biological resources is a key factor for the further development of the tourism potential of Lake Onega. “We considered the problems of Lake Onega in the context of organizing and expanding domestic tourism in the Russian Federation. In the northwest it is one of the most interesting routes. Now a national project is being prepared for the northern districts, for the north-west and for the central regions – this is a very large and interesting tourist route, but without a full-fledged, high-quality bioresource in Lake Onega, this route, of course, will be impoverished. We need to maintain the fish stocks of Lake Onega, restore order on those rivers that flow into Lake Onega, and which provide spawning of fish, said Vorobyov. The senator believes that it takes about eight years to restore the population of salmon fish in Lake Onega. The Council on Agro-Industrial Complex and Environmental Management has developed a set of measures aimed at restoring the population of biological resources in the waters of Lake Onega. One of the points concerns the organization of an adequate level of protection of valuable commercial fish species.
