📝 Summary

The majority (86%) of Russians assess the accession of the Crimean Peninsula to the Russian Federation in 2014 is certainly positive or rather positive, according to the results of a survey by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTSIOM).

At the same time, 73% of Russian citizens believe that the entry of Crimea into Russia brought the country more benefit than harm. Only 12% of Russians hold the opposite opinion, another 15% found it difficult to answer the relevant question. As noted in VTsIOM, the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation is firmly entrenched in the minds of Russians as a landmark event in modern history. Support for this solution is sustainable. “The dynamics of responses demonstrates steady support for this decision – the preservation of the Crimean consensus 11 years after the referendum (the level of support throughout the monitoring period fluctuated between 81-93%),” the center said in a statement. The majority (74%) of Russians also believe that Crimea is developing more successfully within Russia. In addition, 69% of respondents believe that Russia did the right thing by adopting Crimea. Another 16 percent said it was “more likely the right thing to do.” The survey was conducted on March 2, it was attended by 1.6 thousand Russians over 18 years old.
