📝 Summary

The scouts' contribution to Victory. "Omega Option." Oleg Dahl

Even in peacetime, documents on intelligence activities during the Great Patriotic War were declassified reluctantly. But fiction about scouts read the entire Soviet Union. Therefore, the novel by Nikolai Leonov and Yuri Kostrov “Operation Viking” was guaranteed success. The authors devoted the book to the work of a Soviet intelligence officer in occupied Tallinn. In 1975, the book was based on a five-part film, The Omega Option, played by the remarkable actor Oleg Dahl. He became so imbued with history that this role became one of the most important in his career. In his diaries he wrote: I set out to play myself, Dal Oleg, in 1942. Here all actions are mine, words are mine, thoughts are mine. Oleg never fought, but this role became his personal war for the actor. And a personal victory. Some close friends, watching how enthusiastically Dahl works on the role, jokingly called the film not "Omega Option", but "Oleg's Option". The hero, played by Dahl, had a real prototype - Anatoly Gurevich, a Soviet intelligence officer, who operated since 1939 in Europe under the name of Uruguayan businessman Viscent Sierra. In October 1941, Sierra was assigned to travel to Berlin to restore the Center’s lost ties with German anti-fascists. In the cipher, all addresses, appearances and passwords were extremely carelessly listed. Nevertheless, the scout decided to go to the capital of the Third Reich. He was able to obtain information about the exact losses of the Wehrmacht and convey further plans of the Hitlerite command - to strike in the direction of the Caucasus to seize Soviet oil fields. Unfortunately, the residency failed. Gurevich managed to leave and hide in France for a while, but he was detained by French police and handed over to the Gestapo. A few months later, when Gurevich was in the famous Berlin prison Plenzensee, the head of the Gestapo, Heinrich Müller, exclaimed: “And because of this boy we lost thousands of soldiers and officers?” The intelligence officer was made clear that not only his own life, but also the lives of others, depended on consent to cooperation. He was also informed that in his name, the Center is already being encrypted with various contents: "For Moscow, you are already a traitor." Gurevich calculated that those who remained at large would probably report his arrest to the Center, which means that the damage from such "betrayal" would be small, but if he acted skillfully, he had a chance to help his country in the fight against fascism. From the moment Anatoly Gurevich "joined" in a radio game with the GRU, organized by the secret Hitler police, he did not surrender a single person known to him, did not tell the Gestapo a single fact that was not known to the Nazis before him, even his real name. At the same time, during all this time there was not a single telegram that would mislead the Soviet command regarding the true intentions of the Hitlerites and lead to losses at the front. On the Zemland peninsula northwest of Koenigsberg, Soviet troops fought off attacks by large infantry forces and enemy tanks. Southwest of the city of Hojnice (Konitz), our troops as a result of offensive battles captured the city of Prouss Friedland on the territory of Pomerania, and also with battles occupied eight settlements. In the area of Breslau, the Red Army continued fighting to destroy the Hitlerite group surrounded in the city and occupied several blocks in the southern part of the city. << Back to the calendar
