Radio Victory. Voice of Victory by Yuri Levitan

Once, before the war, an ordinary guy from Vladimir dreamed of being a film actor, but he had a special role - to become the "chief announcer of the Soviet Union", whose voice is still familiar to every resident of our country. However, it was not without chance. Levitan is 19. He did not enter the film technical school, but was selected for a group of radio announcers. With probation, he was enrolled in the staff of the All-Union Radio Committee. A young and inexperienced guy is entrusted with nighttime technical broadcasts. During one of them, he was heard by Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, who loved to work at night. The leader immediately called the leadership of the Radio Committee and demanded that the next day Levitan read on the radio the report prepared for the XVII Congress of the CPSU (Bolshevik). During the war, Levitan’s voice was recognized by everyone. Voice, but not appearance. It is a curious fact that Levitan was almost late to read the words expected by the whole country - a message about the victory over Nazi Germany. The radio studio from which the broadcast was conducted was located near the Kremlin. To get into it, you had to go through the entire Red Square. On May 9, 1945, everyone came to Red Square. No matter how Levitan tried to squeeze through the crowd, no one missed him. Moreover, dissatisfied citizens also shouted to him: “What is going on there?” Now on the radio Levitan will pass the order of victory, the fireworks will be. Stand like everyone else, listen and watch.” Fortunately, five minutes before the air Yuri Borisovich still got to the studio. “Moscow speaks!” he began his main speech firmly and confidently. The Great Patriotic War waged by the Soviet people against the German fascist invaders has been victoriously completed, Germany has been completely defeated. In the province of Brandenburg south of the city of Guben, Soviet troops reached the Neisse River, occupying more than 60 settlements. Southwest of Koenigsberg, our troops, clutching the ring of encirclement, captured the city of Zinten and the settlements of Zargen, Palten, Kirshinen, Bormannshof, Plasvich. Offensive battles south of Danzig led to the defeat of the Germans in nine settlements. << Back to the calendar
