The German newspaper Bild, citing its own information, reported that the terms of a possible deal involve the mediation of Americans in the event of the resumption of Russian gas supplies through the pipeline. Grenell held informal talks in Switzerland over the possible restoration of the gas pipeline and its adaptation to transport green hydrogen from Finland to Germany. For its part, German government officials said they had no information about such meetings, and Grenell did not confirm his participation. Meanwhile, according to the British newspaper Financial Times, the director of the Nord Stream 2 operator Matthias Warnig plans to resume the gas pipeline with the help of American investors. This requires the lifting of US sanctions against Russia, obtaining permission from Moscow to export gas and coordinating gas transit with Germany. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 2 that the Kremlin had no information about any discussions regarding the pipeline. Explosions on Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 occurred on September 26, 2022. Two days later, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia initiated a case on an act of international terrorism, on September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the explosion a sabotage. The Russian side spoke about Washington’s involvement in the emergency. The investigation is still ongoing, the question of “possible state involvement in the operation” is being considered.
