We didn't ask for this fight. But Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the glove, he said. Touching on the subject of the increase in duties on Canadian goods by the administration of US President Donald Trump, he noted that Ottawa “did not ask for this fight,” but is always ready to fight if “someone else throws the glove.” Carney also expressed confidence that Canada will win the trade war with the United States. He promised citizens that, united, the country will be able to overcome the crisis and cope with the consequences of tariffs. Carney became leader of the Liberal Party on March 9 and will soon take over as prime minister before the next parliamentary elections scheduled for October 20. The view that Canada should not become the 51st US state is also shared by outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Earlier, the results of the telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Trudeau became known.
