China’s XPeng has promised to launch flying cars in 2026

The Chairman of the Board of XPeng Motors spoke with journalists at the session of the National People’s Congress (NPC), held in Beijing. He Xiaopeng is a member of the NPC. “In 2026, XPeng plans to launch the first mass production of a separate flying car, which we call a ‘land-based aircraft carrier,’” said He Xiaopeng, according to TASS. The control system uses artificial intelligence, developed technologies of autonomous driving "from parking to parking". This year, specialists are working on additional features of the car associated with the landing, there is an optimization of details related to comfort and safety. He Xiaopeng believes that the company's developments stimulate the development of the unmanned driving industry. “As a member of the NPC, I put forward a proposal to standardize automated driving,” he said, expressing hope that China will lead the way in developing global standards. In March last year, Japanese companies Suzuki and SkyDrive announced the start of production of flying electric cars SD-05 with the possibility of vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL). The SD-05 is expected to be available for purchase by 2026. In June 2023, the first certificate of airworthiness in the world received the American company Alef Aeronautics, also developing a flying car. The founder of the design-constructive bureau Filatov, a teacher of Bauman Moscow State Technical University Ivan Filatov, who is engaged in the development of manned cars, said in January that the development of flying cars is stalled due to lack of investment.
